Tom Jobim by Fábio Caramuru is the real expression of two of my greatest passions: playing the piano and the masterpieces of one of the most important Brazilian composers. As I planned my approach of the 28 tracks (double CD) based on Jobim's work, I felt a huge pleasure in exploring this universe in a very particular way: the pianistic one. The two CDs were conceived with a ten year interval between them. The first one, released in 1997, originally named "Tom Jobim Piano Solo", reminds me of a period when I was strongly nostalgic about the recent departure (1994) of this great composer. It reflects my desire of making a personal, contained and reverential tribute. On the other hand, in the second CD, recorded almost ten years later, the melancholy gave place to a happy sensation of reunion. Throughout the musical elaboration process I really had the feeling of having the composer close to me, guiding my soul. At that time, I dared mixing with more freedom my pianistic poetic and Jobim's music. - Fabio Caramuru

昨年リリースされたピアノとブラジルの動物達のフィールドレコーディングによる楽園ピアノ・アンビエント「EcoMúsica」がポスト・クラシカル、ジャズ、再興するニューエイジ・シーンにまで幅広く受け入れられたブラジル・サンパウロのピアニスト／作曲家Fábio Caramuru。アルバム「Tom Jobim」は、ブラジルの音楽史上における最重要の作曲家アントニオ・カルロス・ジョビンの傑作群を、ジョビンの研究家としても知られる彼が生涯を共に歩んできたピアノで演奏するという、最大の情熱を持って制作された集大成的作品です。
「イパネマの娘/Garota De Ipanema」や「おいしい水 / Água De Beber」など、幾多の名曲をピアノで演奏した2枚のCDはそれぞれ10年の間隔を置いて制作されています。Disc1は完全なピアノ・ソロとして1997年に録音され、この偉大な作曲家への強いノスタルジーを想起させるように、限りなくシンプルに、控えめで、敬意を表するトリビュートを作るというCaramuruの望みを反映したパーソナルな作品に。一方、それからほぼ10年後に録音されたDISC2は、ジョビンの楽曲に対する再会の幸せを感じながら、音楽的な精緻の過程を通して、エレクトリックベースを取り入れるなど、ジョビンの音楽をより自由にミキシングし、光り輝くスタンダードから知られざる名曲の数々に新たな魅力を与えています。
